Your in-house tax technology lead, without the headcount

It usually starts with the CFO asking: what are we doing about automation and AI? Few have anyone whose job it is to answer it. I was that person. Now I do the same for more teams: helping tax and finance leaders decide what to build, what to buy and what to leave alone, then working alongside their IT, engineering and vendor teams until it is live and reliable at scale.

You can get answers from anywhere. What you are paying for is independent judgement at the decisions that matter, and someone on your side of the table when you make them.

I am independent of every platform and vendor: I do not sell software and I do not take vendor commissions.

Every engagement has a defined scope and a clear fee.

01

Tax Technology Assessment and Roadmap

A costed, prioritised roadmap and a CFO-ready business case, typically in thirty days.

Length30 days or as agreed
FeeFrom £15,000

Typically in one month you get a costed, prioritised tax technology roadmap and a business case ready for your CFO. I interview your team, map your systems and data as they actually are, rank every opportunity by business value, tax risk, feasibility, dependencies and cost, and quantify the cost of doing nothing where it can be quantified.

Scope: one tax function, an agreed systems and process perimeter, up to 10 interviews, one revision round. Additional regions or separate initiatives are scoped separately.

Already have a roadmap? The same engagement assesses and re-costs it instead of starting over. Price upon agreement.

Already bought something that is not working? If you implemented an automation or AI tool already but find it unused or underperforming, I will review adoption against what you are paying for, analyse the root cause, and deliver a fix-or-kill recommendation or a value recovery plan. I did not sell you the tool and I do not resell anyone's software, so the verdict is honest, even when the answer is kill.

What you get
  • A current-state map of your tax systems, data and processes
  • A prioritised 12 to 24 month roadmap with costs and sequencing
  • Vendor landscape logic: what to buy, what to build, what to skip
  • Quantified exposure where relevant (advisory spend, manual effort)
  • Optional CFO-ready pack, presented together in a live session
02

Tailored AI for the Tax Function Briefing

A tailored half day, built around where your team is starting from.

LengthHalf a day
Team sizeUp to 6 people
Remote£4,500
In person£6,000 plus travel and accommodation at cost agreed in advance

Who it is for. Teams whose CFO is asking what they are doing about AI, and who need a plan rather than a poster.

A working session that turns "we should do something about AI" into specific next steps with owners and dates.

Team Programme: price upon agreement. If you have a larger team, more than six people, we shape the agenda together, built on your actual processes: hands-on clinics using your own (sanitised) work, a governance module on what is safe to put where, and a small set of working, tested AI workflows your team keeps.

What you get
  • AI in the tax function, reviewed for what is relevant to your team
  • Use cases drawn from your team's own workflows
  • Governance guardrails on what is safe to put where
  • My Prompting Techniques for People in Tax materials, tailored for your team

Fractional Tax Technology Lead

I lead your tax technology agenda, from vendor selection to delivery.

Strategic oversight 2 days a month. From £4,000 a month.

Monthly priorities and decisions, vendor and architecture challenge, one steering rhythm, selected decision and requirements documents, escalation advice. Not day-to-day project management or open-ended availability.

Delivery leadership 4 days a month. From £7,500 a month.

Weekly working cadence, roadmap ownership, vendor and RFP management, requirements and decision papers your engineers can build from, steering, delivery risks and dependencies.

Three-month initial term, then monthly with 30 days' notice. Invoiced monthly in advance. Typically after a Tax Technology Assessment and Roadmap engagement, or upon agreement on the specific requirements and deliverables you need to achieve.

Who it is for. For teams with a roadmap but without a dedicated person to run it.

I lead your tax technology agenda: vendor and RFP management, steering meetings, and requirements and decision documents your engineers can build from. Deliverable-led, not time-and-materials: the days anchor the fee, the deliverables are what you are buying.

Capped at a small number of clients. If the priorities, mandate and delivery plan are already clear, I will not ask you to buy work you do not need.

What you get
  • A named tax technology lead for your function, without the headcount
  • Vendor selection and RFP management run from your side of the table
  • Requirements, decision papers and steering documents your engineers and vendors can build from
  • A steady delivery rhythm, with risks and dependencies tracked

AI Workflows: Built and Assured

Working AI for your tax workflows, shipped with the evidence to trust it.

BuildUpon agreement, charged at a fixed price per workflow process
Assurance ReviewFrom £6,000 for each existing workflow process

Anyone can assemble an AI agent now. The hard part is showing it beats the plain model it sits on, and knowing exactly where it goes wrong when it does. Nothing I ship is a black box: you can see where every answer came from and why.

I build working AI into your tax workflows and ship each one with its evidence.

Already built your own on your company's chosen platform? No problem. The value is the tax logic and the tests, not the platform: the logic and test set adapt across Copilot, Claude and ChatGPT; configuration, controls and integration differ by platform and are agreed in scope. The Assurance Review provides test sets for your existing agents with a fortify-or-kill verdict, reusable by your team.

What you get
  • A golden-case test set for each workflow
  • A baseline test against the general model it sits on
  • Plain-language error analysis: what failed, where and why
  • A one-page governance note

Fees are exclusive of VAT.

Who I work with.
i

Heads of Tax with a technology mandate but no tax technology headcount.

ii

Finance leaders at multi-country scale-ups building a tax function from scratch.

iii

Teams facing a mandate (e-invoicing, platform reporting, Pillar Two data) with nobody to own the response.

Bring the problem, not a spec; the spec is my job.

Start free

My prompting course is free, my tax technology readiness scorecard takes three minutes, and my newsletter is where I think out loud. All three are self-serve, so you can get a long way before you ever speak to me.

You might be wondering

Our advisers already help with this.

Good advisers are worth keeping, and I am not here to replace them. I am independent of every platform and vendor. The roadmap becomes the brief you hand to your advisers and vendors, which usually makes that money work harder.

Why not just hire someone?

A permanent hire takes months to land, and you may not yet know what you need. The roadmap work tells you what to hire and becomes their day-one plan, and a fractional arrangement covers the gap while you search. Sometimes a few days a month turns out to be enough. If you do need a hire, I will help you write the spec.

We already paid for a strategy review.

Then we build on it rather than redo it. The difference is the output: not a document but a funded decision, costed, sequenced, risk-quantified and presented to your CFO with me in the room. If your review already got you that, start where it stopped instead: delivery, an AI briefing for the team, or a workflow build.

We already have a roadmap.

Then we start from it. A fractional engagement can begin with the first month spent pressure-testing the roadmap you have, at the tier fee. If the priorities, mandate and delivery plan are already clear, I will not ask you to buy work you do not need.

Our team is already experimenting with AI tools.

Then the briefing starts further along: we turn the experiments into a small set of use cases drawn from your own workflows, agree what is safe to put where, and the team leaves with tested prompts and a plan rather than scattered trials.

Do you implement?

Through the fractional arrangement, yes: I run vendor selections, write the requirements and own delivery from your side. I do not sell software and I do not take vendor commissions.

We already built our own AI agents.

Then you may need nothing from me. Where I can add value is the evidence: whether each agent beats the plain model it sits on, what happens when it is wrong, and the governance around it. If you would like a second pair of eyes on any of that, the Assurance Review benchmarks each agent and leaves your team a reusable test set.
